About Edison School

Edison School is a fully accredited private school located near Okotoks, Alberta. Edison's unique atmosphere guides and encourages each student to maximize his or her intellectual, emotional and creative potential. Edison aims for excellence in all scholastic, social and recreational endeavors.
A student to teacher ratio of 12:1 in grades kindergarten to twelve facilitates increased one-on-one interaction between the student and the teacher. Progress within the curriculum is monitored through a flexible and nurturing relationship.
Lower School Curriculum: phonics, a demanding reading program and novel studies form the foundation of Language Arts; basic math facts and a demanding math program make up Math; hands on Science, Social Studies, French, Health, Physical Education, Art, Music, Drama and optional intramural team sports complete the curriculum.
Upper School Curriculum: English, Math, Social Studies and Science are offered at an accelerated pace in order to prepare for the Advanced Placement Program in grade twelve. French, Geography, Public Speaking, Computers, Art, Drama, Current Affairs, World Religion, Psychology and various C.T.S. courses are offered as options. There are sports teams in cross country running, volleyball, basketball, badminton, and track that play with both local schools and other small public and private schools throughout southern Alberta. Our Upper School students participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards, aiming to achieve Gold level by graduation.
Edison School will seek to imbue the student with a lasting love and respect for learning and to impart skill in conceptualizing, memorizing and rationalizing. Students will be able to integrate ideas scientifically, artfully and logically and then communicate these ideas with clarity and conviction. Edison honours and encourages each child's innate capacity for vitality, curiosity and passion. By nurturing and protecting self-esteem and confidence our curriculum frees the student to lean appropriate and acceptable behaviours, creative problem solving and decision making and to spontaneously express thoughts and feelings. Edison's adaptive but clearly marked boundaries create a robust, healthy environment founded on mutual trust and respect, within which growth and development can naturally and successfully take place.
Edison's staff and administration take pride in our alumni, producing well mannered, academically successful and hard working students with kind hearts and positive attitudes.
Edison School offers a beacon for those parents who wish, through a Parent-School partnership, to foster the growth of caring, responsible, contributing members of the community who are happy, healthy and achieve their potential.
